“A journal is not born when its first article is published. It is born when its second volume begins — when the act of publishing has become a discipline, not an event.”

I. Where We Stand

When the Global Science Portal for Surgical, Procedural and Clinical Innovations (GSP–SPCI) published its founding editorial in early 2026, it was an act of conviction more than certainty — the conviction that a surgeon with 45 years of continuous single-site practice in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, and a multidisciplinary Forum of scientists and engineers established in the year 2000, had something worth saying to the world of academic medicine and science. That conviction has, in the months since, been tested and affirmed.

Volume 1 of GSP–SPCI now stands as a published record. Five peer-reviewed articles across four specialities — colorectal surgery, gynaecology, surgical history, and operative innovation — have been accepted, formatted, and placed in the permanent open-access record of this journal. Each carries its own citable URL. Each is readable by anyone with internet access, anywhere in the world, without a paywall, without a subscription, without a fee.

II. The Editorial Board

No journal is stronger than its editorial board. Ours has grown, in this first year, to eleven confirmed members drawn from surgery, radiation oncology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, pathology, radiodiagnosis, urology, ENT, civil engineering, and applied sciences. Our international members — Dr. Menal Bhandari (Radiation Oncology, Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Illinois, USA) and Dr. Mudit Baxi (Orthopaedic Surgery, NHS Derby, United Kingdom) — give the journal the international character its name demands.

We are particularly honoured by the presence of Dr. Kailash Chand Kurdia (MS, PGIMER Chandigarh; Assistant Professor, Department of GI Surgery & Liver Transplantation, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi) as our Associate Editor for GI Surgery & Liver Transplantation — whose institutional affiliation with AIIMS New Delhi, the apex institution of medical education in India, is a mark of distinction for this journal that we acknowledge with deep gratitude.

Our Advisory and Patron Board is anchored by Dr. N. K. Malpani (MS, FAIS), former Professor of Surgery and Ex-Head of Department at both R.N.T. Medical College, Udaipur and S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur, who serves as Senior Surgical Adviser. His name on our advisory board, as the postgraduate teacher of this Editor-in-Chief, is an honour that words do not adequately express.

III. The e-ISSN Application

A formal application for e-ISSN registration has been submitted to the ISSN National Centre, India (CSIR-NIScPR, National Science Library, New Delhi) — online, by email with a 20-page PDF of the live journal website, and by Speed Post courier. The ISSN National Centre has confirmed receipt. Processing is expected within 30 working days. Upon assignment, the e-ISSN number will be displayed on every page of this journal and on every article citation, marking GSP–SPCI’s entry into the formal international register of serial publications.

The abbreviated title of the journal, for use in reference lists and academic citations, is confirmed as GSPCI, with the official abbreviation remaining GSP–SPCI. Authors citing papers from this journal should use the format:

IV. The Global Scientist Forum

This journal does not exist in isolation. It is published under the academic auspices of the Global Scientist Forum (GSF), established in the year 2000 by eleven Founder Executive Members who gathered at the Basement Hall of Manish Nursing Home, Chittorgarh — a surgeon, a physician, a paediatrician, a hydrogeologist, civil engineers, an electrical engineer, an architect, a geo scientist, and a computer engineer — united by the conviction that the technocrats of India are stronger when they stand together.

Twenty-six years after that founding meeting, the GSF has given birth to an international journal. The founding members — nine alive and two now departed, honoured in memoriam on these pages — are the reason this journal exists. Their names and biographies are permanently recorded in the GSF Founding Members section of this portal.

V. Volume Two — What Lies Ahead

Volume 2 of GSP–SPCI opens with this editorial and will carry, in the months ahead, original research, comprehensive review articles, operative case reports, and historical papers across the full breadth of our sixteen specialities. Among the articles in preparation for Volume 2:

A comprehensive review of chronic fissure-in-ano spanning 3,500 years of surgical history — from Sushruta’s Samhita and the Ebers Papyrus through the landmark contributions of Eisenhammer (1951), Notaras (1969), and Bennett & Goligher (1976), to the modern era of pharmacological sphincterotomy and the Author’s own Modified Open Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy (MOLIS) technique — is in preparation and peer review.

Operative case reports in plastic surgery (cleft lip reconstruction), colorectal surgery (trans-sphincteric fistula-in-ano), and gynaecology (fourth-degree obstetric anal sphincter injury repair) are in preparation.

A historical innovation paper documenting the independent derivation of the percutaneous venous cannulation technique in 1977–78 at Ravindra Nath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur — anticipating the Seldinger principle by clinical necessity alone — is in final preparation.

VI. A Personal Note

I have practised surgery in Chittorgarh since 1980 — 45 years in a single location, serving the same community, operating in the same theatre, seeing the same families across generations. In all those years, the knowledge I accumulated stayed largely within the walls of my operating room and the pages of my case records. This journal is my attempt to change that — to place what I have learned, and what my colleagues and the Global Scientist Forum represent, into the permanent record of science.

To every member of the editorial board, every founder member of the GSF, every colleague who has supported this journal, and every reader who visits these pages — thank you. A journal takes root when people believe in it. You have made that possible.
